Mayhem in Springfield, Mass Boxing last night


“Springfield Championship Boxing 2” was held at the Massmutual Center on Saturday, March 12, 2023. The main event was supposed to showcase two undefeated fighters, Denzel “Double Impact” Whitley (10-0 6 KOS) of neighboring Holyoke, Massachusetts from the famous Whitley family was defending his Massachusetts welterweight title, 8 rounds, against Kenny “Lionheart” Larson (6-0, 5 KOS) of Salem, Massachusetts and the co-main Isaiah “Baby Warrior” Cruz (5-0 3 KOS), 6 rounds was scheduled to fight Akeem “Action Action” Jackson (6-5, 5 KOS) of Maryland.



Previous to the co-main event, junior welterweights, Carlos Gonzalez (4-0 4 KOS) of Springfield, MA went to 2 rounds of 4 against Richard “Hit to Hard” Barnard of Hawaii. Gonzalez controlled the action and if the fight went the distance, it would be presumed that Gonzalez’s hand would have been held high. During round 2 a fight broke out in the VIP section directly behind media. There was so much mayhem that Gonzalez also wanted to get out of the ring as the fight in the crowd was going on. This bout was deemed a no contest and the commission and MGM cancelled the rest of the show.


Junior Welterweights – 4 Rounds. Ian “Dynamite” Garcia of Springfield, MA came to win against “The Outlaw” Ryan Venable of Virginia. During round 2, Garcia gets the KO at 2:20. Garcia’s corner jumped in the ring a tiny bit too early for the excitement of Garcia getting the victory. Garcia increased to 3-0-1, 2 Kos and Venable to 3-17.


Female Junior Welterweights – 4 Rounds. Females Liz “Springfield Rainbow” Humphries of Springfield, MA had some trouble and lost by majority decision against Sarah “Switch Kick” Click of Florida. The judges scored the bout 38-38; 40-36 and 39-37. Click is now 1-2-1 and Humphries is 0-2-1.
