Amateur star Demek Edmonds excited about his homecoming
“New England’s Future VII”
August 14th at the Worcester Palladium
WORCESTER, Mass. (July 20, 2021) – Three-time New England amateur boxing champion Demek “Hightower” Edmonds is excited for his personal August 14 homecoming, when he will fight for the first time in his hometown of Worcester, Massachusetts.
“New England’s Future VII, presented by Rivera Promotions Entertainment (RPE) in association with Shearns Boxing Promotions, will feature three title fights, as well as some of the top prospects in the 6-state region, at the famed Worcester Palladium
Edmonds (2-0, 2 KOs) is another product of the Worcester Boys & Girls Club and its Director of Boxing, Carlos Garcia. He is trained by Rocky Gonzalez and managed by Nate Torres. While “Hightower” was competing in the amateurs, he was also attending Worcester State University, where he earned a degree in business administrations.
“I remember being at the Worcester Palladium and thinking how great it would be for me to be fighting at home,” the 26-year-old Edmunds said. “I’m so excited to have my homecoming on August 14th. A lot of my supporters were unable to travel to New Hampshire (Derry) for my first two pro fights. Now, they can go to my fight in downtown Worcester.
“I’ve always looked up to (promoter) Jose Antonio Rivera, who is a 3-time World champion. He and his son (AJ) have always been there for me. At the gym Jose would offer me advice and give me some tips.”
Edmunds, who friends call Joey or ‘Hightower,” will face a cruiserweight opponent to be determined in a 4-round bout.
“We are excited to have Joey on our New England’s Future 7 boxing event,” promoter Jose Antonio Rivera commented. “I have known Joey since he started his amateur career with Carlos Garcia and Rocky Gonzalez at the Worcester Boys & Girls Club. He has always been a respectful young man. His work ethic in the gym is phenomenal.
“It’s going to be a treat for Worcester boxing fans to be able to see Joey fight for the first time in his hometown. I see big things in his future, and I have no doubt he has a shot at accomplishing his dream of becoming a future World Cruiserweight Champion.
The 8-round main event will showcase undefeated Hartford (CT) cruiserweight Richie “Popeye The Sailor” Rivera (19-0, 14 KOs) will fight an opponent to be finalized for the vacant NBA Americas Cruiserweight Championship.
