Shelly Gets Kiss Last Night and Wins By UD.


PROVIDENCE, R.I – CES Boxing held their season opener last night at Twin River Casino. There was a total of 11 bouts. Two were non New England bouts with famous referee Steve Smoger as one of the judges.

Featherweights – 8 Rounds – REMATCH: Shelly Vincent of Providence, R.I., by way of New London, Connecticut faced a veteran in the ring, Edina Kiss all the way from Budapest. There 1st bout was back in 2018 when some thought the fight could have went either way. Vincent won that bout by MD. Vincent fighting as a southpaw and the opening round at a slow pace continually controlled the bout, moving forward while backing up Kiss. Both fighters had their fair share of punches with no knockdowns. After 8 continuous rounds the judges scored the bout 78-74; 79-73; 77-75 all in favor for Vincent. Vincent increased to 24-2, 1 Ko and Kiss 15-10, 9 Kos.

Lightweights – 8 Rounds - Unbeaten Jamaine Ortiz of Worcester, Massachusetts kept his perfect record when he met up against another undefeated boxer, Ricardo Quiroz of Oxnard, California. They were fighting for the vacant WBC World Youth Lightweight Title. Ortiz looking leaner than usual and as usual had lightning fast hands, great defense and great foot work. In the 3rd round Ortiz’s nose is bleeding. After 8 rounds with no knockdowns all 3 judges scored the bout 78-74 for Ortiz and is now the WBC World Youth Lightweight champ with a perfect 10-0, 4 Kos record and Quiroz is now 10-1, 5 kos.

Super Bantamweights – 8 Rounds - Marcia Agripino of Ledyard, Connecticut faced Amanda Pavone of Boston for the vacant New England Female Super Bantamweight Title. By the 4th round the crowd was getting more involved in the bout. Back and forth action. Towards the end of the bout, Pavone’s jaw doesn’t look good. Pavone landing some good shots but didn’t hurt Agripino. After 8 rounds with no knockdowns the judges scored the bout 77-75; 76-76; 79-75 for Pavone by majority decision and the new champ. Pavone kept her perfect record of 7-0, 2 kos and Agripino, 3-2-1.

Featherweights - 6 Rounds - Ricky Delossantos vs. Javar Jones of Anderson, Indiana. Delossantos moving his body well in the ring while using his footwork. Jones coming forward. Both fighters with fast hands, lean bodies. Good competitive back n forth action but with Delossantos controlling most of the rounds. Right at the end of the 6th prior to the bell Delossantos landed a left hook on Jones and dropped him. All 3 judges scored the bout 59-54 for Delossantos by UD. Delossantos increased to 7-0, 1Ko and Jones 7-2, 2 Kos.

Lightweights – 4 Rounds - Finally we have the return of Michael "Bling Bling" Valentin in the ring since his surgery and issues with the commission. Bling Bling met Christopher Burgos of Philadelphia. Valentine fighting in close quarters. Valentine going to the body. Round 3, back n forth action this round could go either way and both look exhausted by the end of the round. After 4 rounds the judges scored the bout 38-38; 40-36; 40-36 with Valentin winning by Majority Decision and increased to 5-0, 1 Ko and Burgos 1-4-1, 1 Ko.

Welterweights – 6 Rounds - Marqus Bates of Taunton, Massachusetts stepped in the ring against Jair Ramos of Waterbury, Ct. Ramos hasn’t fought since 2017. Round 3 Bates opened up on Ramos with a multitude of punches and the referee stopped the bout at 2:46 with Bates getting the TKO victory. Bates increased to 6-2, 4 Kos and Ramos 5-3-2, 2 Kos.

Junior Middleweights - 4 Rounds - Lamont Powell of Providence, R.I. went the distance against Kenneth Chery of Montreal Quebec. Powell jabbing with the left, controlling the bout, feeling comfortable in the ring and received the UD victory with all 3 judges scoring the bout 40-36. Powell increased to 3-0, 1 Ko and Chery 1-2, 1 Ko.

Junior Middleweights – 4 Rounds – Victor Reynoso of Providence, R.I. vs. John Williams of Baton Rouge, La. Williams not wasting any time with Reynoso. Seems like he has heavy hands. Williams going body head. Williams hand speed doesn’t seem as fast as Reynoso. Reynoso getting hit but Williams isn’t backing up Reynoso. Fight is mostly in center of ring. By round 3, pace was still the same with Williams landing some great shots on Reynoso and backing him up. Round 4 right cross on Williams and down to the canvas he went at 1:31. Reynoso increased to 3-0, 3 kos and Williams 1-1. 1 Ko.

Super Lightweights – 4 Rounds - Nicholas Briggs of Worcester met up against mma fighter Andy Aiello of Bridgewater, Mass. Briggs jabbing his way in throughout the bout and setting up Aiello. Aiello gets the count in the 3rd round. Aiello is a tough opponent, keeps his hands up. After 4 rounds with Briggs controlling the bout and Steve Smoger as one of the referees, all 3 judges had scored the bout the same 40-35 in favor of Briggs. Briggs increased to 3-0, 2 Kos and Aiello 1-2-1.

Arnold Gonzalez vs. Stacey Anderson

Juiseppe Cusumano vs. Brendan Barrett – Try to find this fight on video/YouTube. It was the most entertaining fight of the night.
