RESULTS:  "SLUGFEST AT THE SUN" AT MOHEGAN SUN

[UNCASVILLE, CONNECTICUT] Four New England fighters our of Connecticut, “Action” Anthony Laureano, William Foster, Jacob “Lefty” Marrero and Nathan Martinez fought on the Star Boxing undercard Saturday night at Mohegan Sun. The results are as follows:

SUPER LIGHTWEIGHTS – 8 Rounds: "Action” Anthony Laureano of East Hartford, Connecticut went the distance against Ronald “Savage” Rivas. Laureano looking comfortable in the ring, fighting at times with his hands low. Coming forward, fighting in the pocket trying to back up Rivas. Laureano is a very tough fighter while setting up Rivas with the jab. In the 3rd round Anthony backed up Rivas against the ropes landing some great uppercuts but couldn’t keep him on the ropes or get the knockdown. Rivas was taking some hard punches and has to have a great chin. In round 5 Rivas got dropped by a left to the body by Laureano. By the 6th, Laureano picking Rivas a part. By the 7th Laureano digging dip to the body with multiple punches, trying to do a repeat from the 5th round. After 8 rounds the judges scored the bout 80-71; 80-71 and 79-72. Laureano increased to 10-0, 3 Kos and Rivas 5-9-2, 3 Kos.

SUPER FEATHERWEIGHTS – 8 Rounds: Angel “El Gallo” Suarez of P.R., a Star Boxing fighter met up against William Foster III, of New Haven, Connecticut, the younger brother of professional boxing Charles Foster promoted by Murphy’s Boxing both were fighting for Foster’s JR. NABF SUPER FEATHERWEIGHT TITLE. Foster being the aggressor of the two fighters working combinations and moving his body/head defense well. Foster controlled the bout, backing up Suarez. At times Foster was holding Suarez head down and referee Danny Schiavone didn’t like it. Foster still light on his feet in the 8th. Damm he has a ton of energy. After 8 rounds and no knockdowns all 3 judges scored the bout 79-73 in favor of Foster and he’s keeping his title. Foster increased to 9-0, 6 Kos, keeps his perfect record and Suarez 8-3, 3 Kos

LIGHTWEIGHTS – 4 Rounds. Amateur standout Jacob “Lefty” Marrero of Bridgeport, Connecticut didn’t wait too long to get the TKO victory against Zsolt Karvaj of Budapest, Hungary. (Karvaj had more experience in the ring with five professional bouts under his belt). Round 1 and the only round was all Lefty. Lefty landed a straight left on the Karvaj and dropped him. 2nd knockdown from a right hook, down 1 more time in round 1 and referee Danny Schiavone stopped the bout at 1:07 in round 1 by TKO victory Lefty. Marrero increased to 2-0, 1 Ko and KARVAJ 3-3, 2 Ko.

SUPER BANTAMWEIGHTS – 4 Rounds: Nathan Martinez of New Britain, Connecticut against Jerrod Minor of Philly. Martinez waiting for the counter, while Minor going to the body. Both fighters exchanging punches at very close range. By the 4th the pace kicked up with Martinez controlling the round. After 4 rounds and no knockdowns the judges scored the bout 39-37; 40-36; and 40-36 all in favor of Martinez. Martinez increased to 2-0 and Minor, 1-3-2, 1 Ko.
