International boxing judge John McKaie Ring 8 Guest Speaker Tuesday night Special memorial service


NEW YORK (January 17, 2016) - International boxing judge John McKaie will be the guest speaker at Tuesday night's (Jan. 19) monthly , starting at 7 p.m. ET, at O'Neill's Restaurant, located at 64-21 53rd Drive in Maspeth, New York.

Ring 8 will also host a memorial service for former light heavyweight boxer Herschel Jacobs, who passed away this past December at the age of 75.

"We're fortunate to have one of the most respected judges in boxing as a guest speaker for our first meeting in 2016," Ring 8 president Bob Duffy said. "He has judged some of the biggest fights during his 18-year career in the squared circle. Ring 8 historian Henry Hascup will give a historical tribute to Herschel Jacobs, whose family, friends and members of his team (Cage Boxing Team in Yonkers) will join us for this special evening."

McKaie, who is from Flushing, has judged nearly 800 fights, including 23 world championships. He was one of three judges chosen to work one of the most anticipated fights of 2015, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez vs. Miquel Cotto. Among other top world title fights he's work are Floyd Mayweather, Jr. vs. Marcos Maidana II and Nonito Donaire vs. Vic Darchinyan.

Jacobs (27-20-2, 11 KOs) fought professionally between 1960 and 1978. His signature victory was a 10-round decision in 1971 against three-time world light heavyweight champion and Hall-of-Famer, Harold Johnson, at the famed Sunnyside Garden in Queens. Jacobs also gave Rubin "Hurricane" Carter (4-0) his first pro loss in 1962 by way of a six-round decision. Jacobs also went the distance with future world heavyweight champion Ken Norton in 1972, losing a 10-round decision in San Diego.
