Khiary “Too Sharp” Gray (16-4-0, 12 Kos) of Worcester, Massachusetts will be fighting as the co-main event against Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan (29-3-0, 20 Kos) on Saturday, March 16th at the House of Blues in Boston, MA on the Murphy’s Boxing undercard. Pattee Mak: You haven’t been in the ring since August 17, 2018, when you had an easy fight against “Lino” Antonio Chaves Fernandes (9-33-4) and you scored the TKO win at 2:27 in round 1. Now you are up against a tough opponent, Gary “Spike” O’Sullivan. He’ll be coming forward and he’ll be looking for the win. How do you proceed this fight to go?
Gray: With this fight it’s going to be tough and I expected this. I’ve been waiting for a great opportunity like this and it’s here again. O’Sullivan I’m going in the fight and fight my fight with the game plan me and my trainer are setting up.
Pattee Mak: You and Spike are both coming off of wins. Spike has more ring time and tougher opponents than you. Does this all concern you and what do you know about him?
Gray: Yes he has been in with tougher opponents. He has that name and he has names under his belt. It really don’t concern me cause they are not me. I am a different fighter from all of the guys he has fought. No disrespect to the guys he fought, I’m just a different guy with different abilities.
Pattee Mak: How many rounds is this bout?
Gray: This fight is an 8 rounder.
Pattee Mak: Awhile back you had an injury which had canceled a fight that you had scheduled. Are you 100% ready for this bout?
Gray: Yes I had a injury but I’m cleared. I’m healthy and I’m training my ass off to be than 100 percent ready for what O’Sullivan brings to the ring come fight night.
Pattee Mak: Let’s chat about your current training. Back again to your last fight I remember I didn’t see Kendrick Ball from Camp Get Right in your corner. I remember him with you back in your amateur days. Will he be training you for this match up or if not, who are you now training with?
Gray: Yea Kendrick and I are not working with each other anymore. There was just miss understandings and I felt it was just time for something new there is no disrespect from me. I’m always going to respect him. He got me this far with 3 titles in 2 different weight classes. I’m always going to have that respect for him no matter what. I’m now working with Irvin Gonzalez Sr at the New England Boxing Academy.
Pattee Mak: Now that you are training with Gonzalez are there any differences between your previous trainer and current?
Gray: Oh for sure there is differences between Kendrick and Irvin. It’s different eyes, different techniques but I’m confident with Irvin that we will take home the W come March 16th.
Pattee Mak: Twin River Casino was your home for most of your carrier. Are you still promoted by CES Boxing? If so, how much longer are you with CES?
Gray: Yes Twin River will always be home away from home with Mr B. [Burchfield] and CES Boxing and I have had a five deal with Mr B. [Burchfield] from when I fought Greg Vendetti.
Pattee Mak: The fight is in Boston. This is the 1st time you are fighting in Boston and Murphy’s Boxing typically sells out the venue. Are you selling tickets for this event?
Gray: Yes this my first fight in Boston as a Pro and yes I’m selling tickets for this fight. I’m excited to be a part of this show.
Pattee Mak: Like I said “This event will sell out fast. Get your tickets”.
Pattee Mak: What kind of fight can your fans see come the 16th?
Gray: What kind of fight people are going to see is Khiary “Too Sharp” Gray shock everyone who doubted me and that’s real. I’m not the same. People can look at old videos and say what they want but come March 16th they will have to eat their words.
Pattee Mak: I’m looking forward to this fight. This is a fight the fans definitely want to see.
Pattee Mak: Another exciting fight that night is Mark De Luca (22-1) against Jimmy Williams (16-1). What’s your thoughts on this bout?
Gray: This fight is going to be a great one. I really can’t say who is going to win but I can say this that it’s going to be a lot of action and my prediction is it may end early.
Pattee Mak: Like I always say, “Get in, Get out”.
Pattee Mak: Thank you very much for this interview.
