Aikens Upsets Gingras and gets the UD Decision in the Main Event.

[Providence, R.I] Super Middleweight – 6 Rounds: Great to see Richard Gingras of Pawtucket, R.I. back in the ring when he met up against Antowyan Aikens of New Jersey in the main event bout. Gingras came to fight, but his ring rust showed when he was out boxed by Aikens. In the 6th, Aikens received a 1 point deduction for pushing. This by far was not a busy fight like I would like. Gingras ended up with a cut above his left eye. After 6 rounds with no knockdowns the judges scored the bout in favor of Aikens, 57-56; 58-55; 58-55 by UD. Gingras is now 15-6-1, 9 KOS and Aikens 12-5-1, 1 Ko.

Super lightweights – 6 Rounds. Anthony Marsella Jr. of Providence, Rhode Island against Ricardo Maldonado of Washington. Maldonado is landing with the right and at times Marsella is avoiding the punches with great defensive body/footwork. This has to be Marsella’s toughest fight thus far in his pro boxing career. Round 5 Marsella landed a great left uppercut on Maldonado and got the 10-8 round. This round was the best round by far. Marsella’s left eye is extremely a mess. “This was a battle for me. A learning experience for me”, said Marsella. The judges scored the bout 57-56 for Marsella; 58-55 for Maldonado; and 58-55 for Marsella. Marsella gets the majority decision and increases to 9-0, 4 kos and Maldonado 8-8-1, 1 Ko. Some thought Maldonado won the fight.

Lightweights – 6 Rounds: Speedy hands and skilled craftsman, Jamaine Ortiz of Worcester, Massachusetts out lucked Mr. Tyrone “Hands of Stone” Luckey of New Jersey when he was victorious by a TKO victory. Luckey wasn’t feeling lucky tonight. Ortiz the fighter with an abundant more skills, with his quick hands, fancy footwork and defensive tactics was no match up for Luckey. Ortiz mostly jabbin’ his way thru the bout with Luckey seemingly having not too much power to his punch. Round 3, Ortiz drops Luckey with a right uppercut and the corner stops the bout at 2:54 Ortiz increases to 9-0, 5 kos and Luckey 9-9-7, 7 kos.

Welterweights – 6 Rounds: A fight that I thought was going to be a war turned out that Marqus Bates of Taunton, Mass. was the better of the two fighters when he fought Mohamad Allam of Holyoke, Mass. Round 1 Bates landed and rocked Allam but didn’t drop him. As the round continued Allam was being more cautious. Bates controlled the bout and landing the cleaner shots. Allam is cut over the left eye and his nose doesn’t look good either. Round 3 Bates landed a left on Allam and Allam dropped backwards. After he got back up, the fight was stopped at 1:58 and Bates scored the big TKO victory and increased to 4-2, 3 Kos, Allam 3-3, 1 ko.

Featherweights – 4 Rounds: Ricky Delossantos of Providence, RI controlled the 4 round fight against James Early of Washington, DC. No one scored a knock down All 3 judges scored the bout 40-36. Delossantos increased to 5-0, 1 Ko and Early 3-3.

Super lightweights - 4 Rounds: Green haired Nicky DeQuattro of Johnston, R.I. fought a tuff battle against Andy Aiello of Bridgewater, Mass. After 4 rounds with Aiello repeatedly landing the right on DeQuattro, back and forth action and with no knock downs. All 3 judges scored the same 39-37 for Aiello by UD. DeQuattro suffered his 1st loss and is now 3-1, 1 kos and Aiello 1-1.

Cruiserweights – 4 Rounds: Jake Paradise of Worcester, Mass wasn’t too lucky against “UFC” fighter Leandro Silva of Woburn, Mass. With Paradise bleeding thru the nose with Silva snapping Paradise’s head back and continuing with a barrage of lefts and rights, referee Johnny Callas saw enough and stopped the bout in round 3 at 1:24 Paradise suffers his 2nd lost and is now 0-2 and Silva 1-1.

Welterweights – 4 Rounds: Derrick “Bad Boy” Whitley of Springfield, Mass. fought a tough opponent, Carlos Galindo of Woburn, Massachusetts. Each round was exciting with Whitley scoring a point in the 4th for a knockdown due to a body shot and was the aggressor of the two fighters. Galindo just fought last week on the DiBella card at Foxwoods and went the distance. After 4 rounds all 3 judges scored the same 40-35 in favor of Whitley. Whitley increases to 4-0 and Galindo 0-4.

The scheduled bout between welterweights Aleksandra Magdziak Lopes of Marshfield, Mass. vs. Natasha Spence of Canada was scratched. The original bout in December, 2017 and it was declared a draw.
