Lefty Makes His Pro Debut on June 16th in Hartford, Conn. Interview Below.

I was waiting for this moment and I’m excited to say that 18 year old, featherweight, Jacob “Lefty” Marrero of Bridgeport, Connecticut will be stepping in the ring on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the Xfinity Theatre, Hartford, Connecticut as he’ll be making his pro debut. When I would see Marrero in the ring as an amateur fighter, I always said to myself “This kid has talent”. His brother, Carlos "Talented" Marrero (0-2-0) is also a professional boxer.

Pattee Mak: Well CONGRATS!!!! When I saw that you were fighting I said it was about time. Whoot! Whoot! What does making your pro debut mean to you?

Marrero: I been dreaming about this moment since I was a kid so it means a lot to me.

Pattee Mak: Funny thing is you are soo young and it seems like you should have turned pro a while ago. Did you not want to wait for the Olympics?

Marrero: Me and my team feels like the time is right now to turn pro. Olympics is still a few years away.

Pattee Mak: So… who are you fighting, have you ever fought him before and what do you know about him?

Marrero: I don’t know much about my opponent. I know he’s making his pro debut just like me.

Pattee Mak: Featherweight is a tough weight class to be fighting in. Do you think this might be an obstacle for you?

Marrero: No I feel like I have the height and tools to be successful at this weight class. I don’t see myself having any problems making this weight.

Pattee Mak: I asked your brother Carlos in an interview about what you thought of him turning pro and now I’ll ask you the same question. What does Carlos think about you turning pro?

Marrero: You would have ask my brother. I’m quite sure he’s happy for me.

Pattee Mak: Are you still training with Carlos?

Marrero: Most definitely. That will always be my trainer. He knows me better than anybody else.

Pattee Mak: You showed your skills as an amateur boxer in the ring and many took notice. Some will remember back in 2016 you were awarded the CT Amateur Boxer of the Year. What is your amateur record?

Marrero: My amateur boxing record is 58-7

Pattee Mak: I’m excited for you. June 16th everyone will see what “Lefty” is all about. Where can people find you to get tickets?

Marrero: Anybody interested in coming to support me June 16th can purchase tickets at my gym, Ortiz Boxing Gym, Bridgeport, CT and you can also contact me on Facebook, Instagram and also can contact my coach

Pattee Mak: Thanks so much for the interview.

Marrero: I really appreciate you taking time to interview me.
