WORCESTER, Mass. (April 1, 2017) – Main Event – Cruiserweights – 8 Rounds: Vinnie "American Nightmare" Carita of Pembroke, Ma fought an easy fight against Gilberto Matheus "El Magico" Domingos of Brazil who is the former South American Light Heavyweight champ.
Domingos doesn’t look like he dieted for this bout. Vinnie going to the body. This fight just seemed out classed. Domingos is keeping is guard up but swinging wild. Vinnie went to the body of Domingos and got the count. Fight continued. Everyone was saying he should stay down. Before the opening of round 2 Carita retired at the stool. Carita (16-1-1, 15 Kos).
Lightweights -8 Rounds: Matt “Sharp Shooter" Remillard, the former World Boxing Council (WBC) United States and Youth World, North American Boxing Federation (NABF) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight champ gets back in the ring since his short layoff from boxing when he was incarcerated faced Augustine "Ruthless" Mauras [I was curious to see if the same fireworks were on display in this matchup that were at the presser back on March 8th]. This fight should have been the main event because it was the fight of the night.
Remillard won by the bout after 8 rounds by UD but you have to give Mauras a lot of credit. Mauras kept coming forward while backing up Remillard towards the ropes. Unfortunately since Remillard is a seasoned fighter Remillard knew how to turn his body to not take too much punishment. Mauras continued trying to open up Remillard. There were some words were flying at the end of round 4, when each corners had to get in the ring. Remillard kept working the body and Mauras just kept coming and sometimes with his head first. Mauras received a point deduction for a head-butt. With Remillard’s skill out worked Mauras.
Judges scored the bout 78-73; 79-72; and 80-71 all for Remillard. Remillard 24-1, 13 kos and Mauras 6-2-3, 3 Kos.
Heavyweights – 4 Rounds: Bryan Daniels of Worcester vs. “Money” Mike Sawyer of Winter Park, FL. Sawyer didn’t bring his usual corner man with him. Round 1 was pretty much unorthodox. Sawyer goes down for the count three times during the round, Very sloppy round 1. At the 2:45 mark of the first round, Daniels lands a beautiful left hook on Sawyer and he goes down to the canvas. Daniels landed right on the button. Daniels increases to 4-0, 2 Kos.
Heavyweights – 4 Rounds: Donnie "Big Nasty" Palmer of Dorchester vs. Bobby Favors of Cincinnati, Ohio. Palmer has about 6 inches on Favors. Favors just didn’t do anything in this fight but stumbled backwards when Palmer landed a body/head combo. Ref Kevin Hope stopped the bout at 2:06 in round 1. Palmer increases to 9-1-1, 8 Kos.
Junior Welterweights – 6 Rounds: Anthony Laureano who is stepping up to 6 rounds met up with veteran Bryan "The Brick" Abraham of Schenectady, NY. Laureano backing up the Brick with his jab. Laureano is making the Brick run in round 1. Bryan didn’t have his usual corner man with him either. Round 2 both fighters exchanging. Laureano goes low on Abraham. Laureano continues with the body and overhand right. Abraham just didn’t have any power to his punch. After a left hook that rocked Abraham, Abraham called the ref over and wanted the standing 8 count but the ref called off the bout at 2:45 of round 3. Laureano wins by tko victory and his record is now 3-0, 2 Kos.
The following all 4 rounds bouts:
Junior welterweight "Marvelous" Mickey Williams of Manchester, Conn vs Israel “Tigre” Rojas of Mexico. Mikey working the jab in the ring going to the head. Mikey lands a straight right with 2 lefts and Rojas couldn’t continue and the fight was stopped at 2:05. I don’t think Rojas landed anything during round 1. Mikey (6-0, 4 Kos).
Super Middleweights: Elvis Figueroa, from New Haven, Conn, who I just recently saw in the gloves is pro debut against Devision Ribiero of Brazil. Figueroa getting some goods shots in while Ribeiro kept tying him up. By round 2 Ribeiro was getting tired, Figueroa going to the body. After the 2nd round and before the 3rd round Ribeiro retired at the corner due to, I believe a hand injury. Figueroa wins by TKO. Figueroa (1-0-0, 1 Ko)
Welterweights: Andy Gonzalez of Worcester, MA vs. well known vet Antonio “Lino” Chavez Fernandes. Lino who really will just fight anyone and comes to fight. Gonzalez looks great in the ring. Working the body of Lino while having great defense. Chaves end up fighting with his hands down taking some shots but stayed in there for 4 rounds. Lino is a type of fighter that could definitely frustrate you in the ring. All 3 judges scored the bout 39-37 for Gonzales. Gonzales (6-1, 5 kos) and Fernandes (7-31-4, 2 kos)
Junior welterweight: Adrian Sosa of Lawrence, Ma vs. Oscar Diaz of Hartford, CT. In the 1st round Diaz goes down by a left and a followed up by a right and the referee stopped the bout at 1:34. Sosa (2-0-0, 2 kos) and Diaz (0-11-0)
Featherweights: Luis "Pancho" Santiago of Springfield, Mass finally made his pro debut [He was scheduled to fight on the last Rivera Promotions Card but due to opponent’s meds, the fight couldn’t go take place] vs. Alex Montes of Lawrence, Massachusetts. 1st round Montes controlled the action in the ring. Backing up Santiago. After 4 rounds of back and forth jabbing the judges scored the bout 40-36 for Santiago; 40-36 for Montes and 38-38 and we have a draw. Santiago (0-0-1) Montes (1-2-1)
Junior middleweight: Southpaw, Springfield, Mass, Derrick “Bad Boy” Whitley of the famous Whitley Family of Holyoke, Mass made his pro debut vs. Anthony Everett of Lawrence. 1st round both fighters trying to get their distance down fighting at a distance. By the 3rd Round the pace kicked up. Everett taking a lot of shots to the head. Throughout the fight its Whitley controlling the action. After 4 rounds the judges scored the bout 40-36, 40-36 and 39-37 all in favor of the Bad Boy himself. Whitley (1-0-0) and Everett (1-5-0)
