[November 25-2015 - Ringside by Pattee Mak] I was surprised at the turn out of the professional boxing card held at the Boston Teacher’s Union Hall on the day before Thanksgiving. There was even 4 bouts consisting of non-sanctioned fighters putting on a great show.
The main event only went 1 of the 10 scheduled rounds. Chris Traietti of Quincy, Massachusetts fought an easy fight against Adam Collins of Ironton, Ohio in the cruiserweight division. Round 1 Traietti lands a right to Collins and drops him to his knee. Traietti lands another right hand and Collins gets the count. Traietti now lands Left hook on Collins and Collins just doesn’t want to get up, especially with Collins shaking his head no to the referee. Traietti gets the victory at 2:38 by KO and advances to 20-3-0 with 16 Ko’s and Collins decreases to 13-11-0.
4 Rounds – Heavyweights - Brandon Montella of Saugus, Massachusetts vs. Devonte Hopkins of Philadelphia, Penn. Montella landed a straight jab on Hopkins in round 1, Montella continued on with right hands. Hopkins taking a knee and the count. Montella digging deep to the body. Round 2 Montella drops Hopkins by way of a body shot. Hopkins did not continue and the referee stopped the bout at .37 into round 2. Winner by TKO Montella.
4 Rounds – Jr. Welterweights - Matt “The Mantis” Doherty of Salem, Massachusetts vs. Rafael Francis of Brockton, Massachusetts. Round 3 Doherty wobbled Francis a tiny bit. Very competitive bout, back and forth action with no knockdowns. Judges scored the bout 39-37 for Doherty; 39-37 for Francis and 39-37 for Doherty. Doherty wins by split decision.
4 Rounds – Super Middleweight - Antonio Chaves “Lino” Fernandez locally of Quincy, Mass vs. Greg Thomas of Philadelphia, Penn. During round 1 Lino drops Thomas from a body shot. After the count, Lino lands a left hook and Thomas gets the count. Lino follows up with a beautiful right hook and lands perfectly. Referee calls a halt the bout at 1:44.
Other pro fighters on hand Ryan Kielczweski and Butterbean.
